An Event That Should Never Have Happened
2025
The work consists of crushed, fired clay in distinct containers, and video documentation on two screens.
The videos trace the artist’s process of collecting shattered ceramic shards and grinding them using a jaw crusher. These fragments originated from an earlier time-based ceramic structure titled Witnessing an Event. Witnessing an Event included a process of destruction by a motor-controlled metal wire. The video footage follows the artist as they regrind and sieve the larger particles until the work is reduced to a fine powder. The video links the original ceramic form to its transformed microstate.
Ultimately, the audience witnesses an evolution of fired clay through successive stages of destruction and refinement.
